Why Haakman Flowerbulbs BV?

Haakman Flowerbulbs BV markets high-quality products - a broad and innovative selection - by exclusively buying from and collaborating with the best growers in the Netherlands. Haakman’s added value is that the company thinks as a grower, it assists forcing facilities abroad and it thinks along with the client in the forcing process. Haakman also works (collaborates) with persons who are highly skilled in the field of preparation and cultivation. Each batch of bulbs is inspected on internal quality and development stage inspection takes place, to which the cooling process is adjusted. Haakman is proud to collaborate with Ger Koomen, an expert in the field of tulip preparation. Haakman Flowerbulbs BV can also supply you with a year-round product because of their own supply of New Zealand tulips. With its young management team - Dirk-Jan Haakman and Michel Dignum – Haakman Flowerbulbs BV can supply every client with tulips, from small to large, anywhere in the world.

Collaborations

In 2008 Haakman merged with former and current purveyor to the Royal Household, Menting in the North-East Polder, partly to be able to position itself better in the forcing segment. With forcing, it is particularly important that uniform batches are supplied and that matters like harvesting time and storage conditions ‘match’. In Menting, which is located at a favourable location for the cultivation of tulips on large surfaces, Haakman has a strong partner. In addition to 60 hectares of tulips, Menting also grows another 60 hectares of lilies. Haakman Flowerbulbs BV is also collaborating very closely with DECO Tulips – cultivator and grower of tulips. They are located at the same premises as Haakman Flowerbulbs BV. DECO Tulips presents itself as a market player that markets high-quality tulips and forces an exclusive selection that is partly made possible by co-shareholder Solid Tulips (Jos Borst).

Working accommodation

Haakman Flowerbulbs processes its export products at a highly advantageous location at Molenweg in Wervershoof, the Netherlands. The company premises have a modern interior – a complete renovation took place only in 2002 – has a surface area of 8,800 m2, 5,000 m2 of which are glass coverings for the built-in tulip forcing facility. The facility is fitted out with cold stores, one of which is a large reception hall where the export tulips are stored. It is possible to store more than 50 million tulips at a time and to keep the temperature in this reception hall perfectly under control between 20 and 23 degrees centigrade. This is the ideal temperature for storing tulip bulbs that are intended for forcing purposes.
